Client AI Disclosure Note
Updated May 2026
What this is for
Use this resource when you need to explain AI-assisted visual work to a client without sounding alarmist or overly legal.
When to use a disclosure note
A simple note can prevent confusion when AI materially shaped the image, changed the setting, created generated elements, or affected what the client can safely use.
- Generated elements are part of the final deliverable
- AI was used for backgrounds, scenes, objects, textures, or environments
- Concept images appear in pitches or moodboards
- The client expects ownership, exclusivity, or broad commercial rights
Keep the tone calm and practical
Say what was used, why it was used, and what the client is allowed to do with the final work.
- Avoid legal jargon
- Avoid apologetic language
- Say whether AI was used for concepts, cleanup, retouching, background extension, or final image creation
Usage rights reminder
A disclosure note is not a full contract, but it can remind the client that usage rights should be defined separately from broad ownership claims.
- Where the client can use the image
- Whether paid advertising is included
- Whether resale or third-party transfer is allowed
- Whether model-training or dataset use is restricted
